Recently I went to backup my copy of Chronicles of Riddick. I popped it in the drive, and hit open disc in DVD Shrink. Almost immediately the analyzing slowed to a halt. It paused for 2 minutes, so I hit cancel and after I cancelled it, an error message popped up saying that the disc could not be read due to copywrite protection.

This is a new one for me, and the first disc this has ever happened to. Recently my computer was having a pop-up of wanting me to install new firmware for my DVD drive...Which I did a few days ago before trying to backup this DVD. Could this have something to do with it? Any similar experiences? For your information I have an external HP DVD Write drive.

Use DVD Decrypter to write the files to your harddrive, then you can use DVD Shrink on the files.

It is a known problem with some discs.
