I am getting this error on my DS screen. I have the 1.18 firmware and I have the 2 folders and 2 files all in the root directory of sd card. I have noticed that the 2 files have unknown icons beside them on my pc screen as opposed to proper icons, i.e. the one with the white square and blue, green and red dots on. Why are these ,dat files unrecognisable? Is there software that will make them recognisable and they will appear with proper icons?

    Thanks in advance.

take off your game and save files, format the card and re download the firmware. Put everything back on and it should be fine.

When you formatted the card did it get rid of the strange icons.

If not the sd is faulty

If it did, put on the firmware, add 1 game and test.

Formatting deleted the sd card completely. I re-added the firmware and a game and nothing :-( Do you have a link to the firmware? I used www.r4ds.com. Is there a better one?

The problem with R4 cards are there are so many with the same name.

The site in my signature hosts all the firmwares, you will be able to get it from there.

Sorry to be a pest. I've done all this and it still doesn't find the file. My own opinion is that the problem lies with the 2 files being unrecognisable. On the guide on this forum the pictures show a proper icon beside each of the files, i.e. the computer recognised the file types. My computer is not recognising the file types. Is there still something missing?

Thanks for all your help so far but I am up the walls trying to get this sorted. Thanks again in advance.

No my computer does not recognise the file types for flashcarts.

The problem with most R4's is the firmware, when you have the right firmware it loads when you don't it cannot find menu etc.

How long have you had the cart, can the vendor help you with the site to go to. On the box does it say anything other than R4?
