the psp web browser is crippled and very limited because of all the out of memory errors. with all the advanced homebrew out now, why hasent there been a fix for this yet or an alternative and functional browser?

The PSP web browser is perfectly suited to the PSP. Yes it is limited to 3 tabs but really loading three web pages simultaneously is hard enough on the PSP. There is no need/way for a FireFox port to be created to run efficiently on the PSP.

being able to load 3 webpages is NOT the issue. being able to load ONE web page is the issue. you can't do it because the psp doesn't have enough internal memory dedicated to such a process. i'm tired of not being able to visit half the webpages i attempt to visit because of an 'out of memory' error. it's rediculous that the psp can run games like killzone liberation, ace combat x, ratchet and clank etc, but it can't freakin load a web page if there are too many images or too much data to hold in memory. it only has 4mb of ram. pathetic. all it would need to do is use the memory card as cache for web browsing. i don't understand why someone hasn't come up with a solution yet. the psp browser is definitely not perfectly suited to the psp and anyone who thinks so should try to load a halfway complex webpage like ign.com and see what happens. there is a need for a solution.

since the psp slim has double the internal memory, it should be able to handle more. i could be wrong, so anyone with a psp slim, confirm or deny this.

i think the browser is fine as is. i only use it when i setup a new wireless router, or to do quick searches.

Bicker and complain! Have you ever lived with a dial-up connection? For the first 4 "internet years" of my life I was surfing the net picture less because of our crappy 28 kbps dial up connection. On your PSP set it not to load images, or set the conserve memory option. I have had this site, qj.net, and my email page all open and all working fine on my old school fat psp.

i've lived many more than 4 years with dial up. i use to ftp things like 3ds max in its early days, on dial up.

    conserve memory option doesn't help.

images are exactly what i want to see.

when a cell phone browser is more functional than one on a system that can run close to ps2 quality games, that's just real sad..

the browser wasn't designed to handle that many images because of the hardware. if homebrewers were to designed a browser, it would be the same; limited to the hardware.

Is anyone else slightly unnerved by this statement...

Cell phone browsers are programmed to dillute internet pages, PSP's are programmed to see them with little to no distortion. I suggest going to non-graphic intensive pages or viewing pages designed for the PSP. If you really need to see the internet, view it on the computer that the router is hooked up to or, if it's for mobile purposes, invest in a laptop.

If you are on a 3.60 M33 their is a program that lets you view YouTube videos. If you can run homebrew let me know, Ill find the link for the program.

Your missing the point. Like XEnigmaX said, cell phones dilute nad change the internet page to make it load faster. The PSP doesn't change the site one bit. So in reality the PSP has the better web browser its just the unthankful/impatient users that can't stand to what an extra 15 seconds for some pictures to load. I mean really mtb2k if you gave your PSP to a poor kid would he complain about the picture loading speed? NO! She/He would just be very grateful for having a PSP. If the browser annoys you that much then get up off your ass and do something about it! Learn to code and write a browser or just sell your PSP and buy the "superior" cellphone.

look, i'm not complaining about the picture loading speed. did you even read my thread? my problem is, i paid 199 dollars at the time for a psp partly so i could access the internet while someone else needs to use my pc, and i can't do it because half the websites won't load. its not that they don't load slow. its that they don't load at all because of the out of memory error. now when sony states the psp has a functional browser, and i go pay 199 dollars so i can have a portable device to access the internet, and it isn't functional in that it doesn't load half the sites i go to because of a very irritating out of memory error, then yes i get pissed off. what if you had an xbox360 and used that to play your music, and it only played half the music that you ripped to it? no it isn't the main feature of the console, but it is a feature and it is supposed to be functional and useful. so therefore i expect it to be. all they would have to do is use the memory card as a cache.

i already have plans of getting the cellphone since the psp is crippled in this respect. i also downloaded tutorials for coding in lua. i have no progamming experience. do i need to learn some c++ first? i'd like to fix this problem

Simple solution to the out of memory error is to open one page at a time and wait till it is competed loading before continuing with the other pages. And to add this, the PSP is a gaming console first and a internet browser second. You shouldn't ding it so much because it can't keep up with the speed of your pc.

dude, i'm on your f*ing side.... the psp should have a functional browser... i had my computer down for two weeks so i had to use my f*ing psp and the browser sucks... i'll give you like $10.00 if you successfully fix that feature.... good luck to you.....

jesus how many times do i have to say this? i don't care about how fast the pages load! all i care about is that they even load AT ALL, which many are not because of a lack of memory or cache. and, i don't use 3 tabs. i only use one.

This thread has gone extremely far off track. If you want to rant, go right ahead--but it has no place here.

To answer your original question, no one has made an advanced homebrew browser for various reasons, some of which:

1 - There isn't enough demand for one. If more people complained about the web browser, I'm sure someone would make it. Get enough people together, contact a developer, and it might happen.

2 - You say that the PSP doesn't have enough internal memory. If you run a homebrew browser, it will also hog some of the resources, making there even less available memory.

3 - Coding a fully functional web browser is no easy task--there are actually a few homebrew browsers that came out before Sony's browser in 2.0. They only have a few functions and very little support, even for images.

On another note, if you want to complain, do it elsewhere--like to Sony for instance.

That's ALL it would take, yes. When you learn how to modify the motherboard so that the ram can access the memory stick, please tell us so that we can do it as well. A simple software update or program is not going to change the fact that it can't happen any other way.

Also, learn to use RSS feeds, that's an innovation Sony didn't crap out on by using. ign.com does have these, just check

    http://corp.ign.com/feeds.html

That's why they don't add extra memory, you can get all the information you need without the pictures, unless of course as you stated earlier:

In which case, I suggest you stop looking at porn and do something productive. If you still feel the need to respond, go right ahead, just know that we can't do anything about your problem. I feel that I've proven this quite clearly.

As for coding, I suggest you start with java, then go to basic, then to lua, then to C, then to C++.
