DirecTV Dvr to linux media box?

    I came across a DirecTV DVR, but I don't have their service, so I was wondering what would be the best way to get Linux on it and use it as a media box. I was thinking about just taking the hard drive out and installing linux and popping it back in, but then I got to wondering about drivers. Is there a distro that would be best to use?

    I should also mention it's an R15-300
