New to the forum so hello to every1.

Ive recently changed my settings from "pio" to "dma if available" on my ide controller for sony dru-530a in device manager. My burns on 4x media were taking 40 + minutes and I havent tried burning w/ new changes yet to see if its a differance. After visiting sony's site I noticed in their "firmware upgrade" instructions they state "disable [DMA setting] in Windows" before upgrading.
I was wondering if my dma setting will now allow faster burning and why i need to disable dma in order to upgrade firmware? Thank you in advance!

Hi overcast, DMA will help speed up your burning process. As to the firmware upgrade, it depends on the company as to how they want the firmware installed. Some require you flash the firmware in DOS. Once its done, you can go back to DMA. Remember that the burning process depends on your complete system working together. Welcome to AfterDawn.
