This has been something that's plagued me for years but I never looked into it: do burnt PS2 DVDs eventually stop reading as effectively and require reburn?

Is there a way to offset this?

I don't think you can, because there are multiple reasons why a disc can deteriorate. Check this link out when you get the chance http://hometheater.about.com/cs/dvdlaserdisc/a/aadvdrota.htm it talks about DVD rot. Now I'm not saying all your discs will deteriorate, but the chances of it happening are due to the dye used, environment, the way its manufactured etc....Here is another link that goes into more detail http://www.nbcnews.com/id/4908081/n...mes/t/when-optical-discs-go-bad/#.U7TKisZOWcw . I think the best discs you can get are silver/gold alloy phthalocyanine dye media, but they are very expensive. Here are some gold dvd discs http://www.gotmedia.com/verbatim-dvdr-8x-gold-archival-grade-96320.html as mentioned, but they are expensive to get.

verbatim AZO have a good name i use them exclusively nowadays for movies & games & not the gold series, didn't even know there was a gold series ..lol..

best bet is rip original game disc & store iso on two different hdd's the issue you will have & worst to do is rip an already ripped & burnt game that is a no no & for obvious reasons, mind you there's plenty of game pirate sites that have ps2 iso's
