   does anyone know why the xbox has a hard time reading cd-r but not cd-rw?

   Depends on the DVD drive in your Xbox. Some have a hard drive reading from CD-RW also and the Samsung drive can pretty much read anything.
   Has to do with the way the laser inside the drive is adjusted.
