Does PeerGuardian protect in IRC?

If I'm only downloading files via IRC, and not through P2P or torrent networks, is PeerGuardian actually doing anything at all to protect me? ... Or, is it just another one of those apps that I run in the background, eating CPU cycles, for sh-ts & giggles?

It won't do a thing, since anyone can easily retrieve you IP number. The best way to use irc securely is to purchase a shell account. Connect to the shell account through several anonymous proxies, then connect to irc through the shell. Thats the best, most secure way to protect you identity on irc. A major pain in the ass though.
