    This may also be useful.
I just tried the same DVD that Nero gave the VTS_01_0.VOB error for as described above.
But this time I first saved that DVD to my hard drive with DVD Decrypter, then tried to load those files into Nero and it said "DVD-Video files reallocation failed. The resulting DVD-Video might be unplayable, Do you want to continue ? YES / NO

When I've done the ISO read / ISO write with DVD Decrypter and also a burn with ImageBurn this has never been mentioned.

Does it mean anything to someone ?

    Hey guys !

I'VE MADE A SUCCESSFUL BURN, THE FIRST IN OVER 15 WASTED DL DVD'S !

Since my last failed burn I made these changes, I'm not sure exactly which one it was that made it work !

I noticed on my computer that local disc D has an enormous amount of space compared to local disc C.

    So:

*I changed "Path for Cache" in Nero from C drive to D drive.

*I changed Nero's Temp files, Picture files and Imported Video files from C drive to D drive.

*In Nero Transcoding Quality-Quality Setting I changed it from Standard Play to High Quality and I changed Encoding Mode from Fast Encoding (1 Pass) to High Quality (2 Pass VBR),but this was in another mode - this actually wasn't an option in the mode I used when I made the successful burn so I'm not sure what effect that stuff had.

*I also deleted the version of "DVD Decrypter" I had been using and downloaded and used "DVD Fab Decrypter 3".

I opened Nero Express, selected DVD-Video Files, add the AUDIO TS and VIDEO TS folders and burned onto the TDK disc ! haha

I still have the 3 Verbatim discs to spare !

+ I burned with 'Enable Smart Encoding of Audio and Video material' unticked, but that was also an option in another mode, so I'm not sure if it actually made a difference in the mode I made the succesfual burn with.

When you got the video file allocation failure error message, it was likely due to the omission of one of the files for whatever reason. When you open the VIDEO_TS folder, right click and select Select All, and then click the Add button. That'll make sure you get all the video files in the folder added. Using a disk with more space is better for sure, but usually doesn't affect the burn unless the disk is very fragmented or you in fact run out of space. It does sound like you were attempting to copy on the fly which is just a terrible idea all-around. You need to always rip to your hard disk first. DVD Decrypter by itself cannot handle extremely strong copy protection. It can however with the use of PSL files which is why Ripit4me was recommended since that's what it does. DVDFab Decrypter can handle the stronger structural copy protection but you often need to process the the ripped DVDFab files through Vobblanker or FixVTS to clean them up to avoid a burning failure.

    Hi.

I can't tell for sure what caused the write failure. However the media you're using is not very good.

There's little doubt that Verbatim +R DL is the best DL media and seems to be most compatible with the widest range of burners. It's possible the media is the culprit. I do not believe there are any firmware updates for that burner.

If you're backing up a DL DVD title and using AnyDVD or a similar program in the background for overcoming structural and other copy protection, it's best to just rip an ISO of the disk with DVD Decrypter. The ISO can then be burned with either DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn. Just select the MDS companion file to the ripped ISO as the source and the burner as the destination in either program in Write mode for ImgBurn or ISO Write mode for DVD Decrypter. Ripping the ISO preserves the original layer break. Both programs were written by the same person but only ImgBurn is updated. If you're authoring a DL disk, it's probably best to use ImgBurn instead of DVD Decrypter.

looks like I'm going in the right direction.. the media is HP DVD+R 2.4x 8.5g. guess i'll try verbatim, seems to be the choice by most from what i've read so far. it looked to me that the burner gave the error message when it started to burn the 2nd layer, i don't really know. i'm open for any suggestions , please. i will try the other media to see if that is the problem. once again it all started out well, got to about 65% and then froze it up ......

i've been reading these other forums so i tried something different. i ripped with dvd decrypter and saved to my HD, i opened the ISO with Imageburn, now i get a warning : ( Optimal L1 data zone start LBA : none found !!(vts_12) The image has not been remastered correctly for burning onto a double layer (OTP track path) disc. None of these cells meet the "dvd-video spec" criteria for a potential layer break position. Do you want to continue anyway ? ) The disc is "Deal or No Deal". I was able to creat a ISO file of the disc, create a mds file, opened ImageBurn, directed it to the MDS file and that was the warning I got, I stopped there, did not want to make a coaster.. Can anyone help ? Thanks

I tried some cheap dual layer disks with my LG burner, it crapped out at the start of Layer 2, I bought some Verbatim and had no problems, perfect burns every time.

    @ ktowncopy

Try DVD Decrypter in ISO Write mode and see if it gives an error message. The ImgBurn message is a warning that the layer break doesn't meet its criteria, not that it won't work. An optimal layer break point is usually at a scene change/chapter break so any break in the play won't be noticed. There are a couple of ways DL DVDs are burned. One method is more susceptible to break than others. The disk you're using is one that requires that type of burn strategy I think and that may be why the message is worded as it is.

Finally, I used CloneDVD 2903 with ANYDVD 6061 in the background, using HP DL media and no tricks or anything, this is all I used, perfect burn of the DVD interactive game "deal or no deal" I wished I would have tried this route the first time. Hope this might be some help for anyone looking. I'm still gonna try the Verbatim media next trip to the store.
