I have a TDK 840G DVD Burner. It is able to read CD's with no problem but it is unable to read DVD's. Any idea why this might be the case? It used to read and wrote DVD's but now it does not recognize them. I would guess something got fowled up in the registry but I don't know how to figure it out. Any help would be appreciated. I am running XP.

It may help to uninstall the drive through Device Manager. Try these steps:

    Go to Device Manager >

Expand the tree for DVD/CD ROM Drives >

Find the drive in question, right click it and go to Properties >

Under the Driver tab, select Uninstall then OK.

Now reboot and Windows should detect and reinstall the drive.

If this doesn't help try the same steps as above except expand the tree for IDE ATA/ATA Controllers and uninstall either the Primary or Secondary controller depending on which one the drive in question is attatched to. Nero Info Tool can tell you which chain the drive is on under the Configuration tab.

Let us know if this helps :)

I tried everything and eventually decided it was probablyu a hardware error along with TDK tech support. They are swapping my drive still waiting on the new drive.

K, that sucks (for me espsecially. I opened the drive so i broke the "warranty void" seal.)

I think im gonna try and have a computer technician around town fix it.

THanks, also when you get your new drive keep us updated on if it works or not.

I sent the drive back and the manufacturer agreed it was defective and sent me a replacement. I will be installing in the next day or two and will know for sure that I am back in action.
