it stutters when i play dvd's and cd's and it is burning slowly, do you think the problem could be that it is dirty and if so would i just use a cd lens cleaner?

As you say a cleaner might go along way in fixing the stuttering. A question however, comes to mind. Does this condition exist with any CD or DVD, original or backup?

    Cheers.

    EDIT: spelling.

Sorry for the delay in reply. At first guess, I would blame the quality of the media, but as you say, it's any CD or DVD, original or not. Have you rolled back the driver, or tried reinstalling the driver? Have you checked device manager, for any conflicts? If you've tried these options, and still have no joy, perhaps it's time to buy another if the warranty has expired. Sad but true. :(

Post back, if you find a happy solution.
