Just installed DVD+RW drive but it wont read any DVD's. says invalid disk or drive although it reads and burns CD's no probs. current driver installed and its in device manager as DVD drive but when click properties on disk, say it is CD drive.

It would help quite a bit to know what make/model burner you have, what firmware is installed on it, what OS you're using and whether you are trying to read factory or burned discs.

Do you have a soft DVD player, such as PowerDVD, or WinDVD? Is XP updated, codecs, Media Player, DirectX?

Firmware is kind of like a little BIOS stored in the burner itself and updating it usually helps media compatibility and performance, but, if your brand new drive isn't recognizing factory DVDs there is a good chance the drive may be defective.

Do you have access to another PC so you can test your drive and see if the problem lies with the drive itself or your system?

OK Thanx I'll give it a try tonight, if it doesn't work I'll know to send it back.
