It all depends what you want to do with the software. If you are in the U.S. or Canada, your Plextor came with the Basic version of Roxio. If you want to do alot of video editing, you will want to get the full version.

The software that comes with any burner will not dupe copy protected discs. If you want to do that, you will still need the free software that is out there. Roxio will burn files from DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter.

Thank you so much for the fast help. It really helped a lot and it saved me some cash.

My new question is that sometimes when I shrink it says low on memory, how can i fix this? Ive cleaned as much as I could on my computer, is there something i can buy to give my laptop more free space or memory to save or store some of my backup files? also i recently added a 512mb ram to my laptop so i could use my dvd burner. Hope I make sense, thank u again!

Does it say low on memory, hard drive space or virtual memory? There is a world of difference.

I think it says virtual memory.

    Sorry let me correct myself:

It says DVD shrink encountered and error and cannot continue. Out of memory. The paging file is too small for this operation to complete.

    Thank u!

Ok then, here goes, click on start, right click my computer, go to properties, advanced, performance settings, got to advanced, change virtual memory, enter a value just less than the max possible, say 10-15M, apply, away you go!!

    Hope this helps,

Go into advanced, press the CHANGE button, enter the new figure in the INITIAL size box, press the SET button. You should then have it.

It is really VERY, VERY simple to do!

Hello back again, even after doing that the disc I am burning seems to be way too large for the shrink to back it up. 33% of the back up overfills the memory. Is there a way to backup half and than do the other half or can I buy more space for my laptop?

I know I know its me again. This time I tried to write it with Decrypter and the writing worked - however my 4.7 8x ridata blank dvd isnt enough to hold the amount on the file so it wont burn - what can i do to make it fit the disc? or is there another type of disc large enough to fit the large file?

    so sorry

    Quote,

    "Thanks a bunch"

Down our way, that is considered sarcasm.

Sounds like you need a bigger HD for your laptop. You need at least 10gig free.

Trying not to stray too far from burners, I would get the biggest you can.
