    Wow! That's a hell of a lot of detail. :) I'm a total newb, but I had a problem with Nero hanging at 99% burn. I don't know if this is exactly the problem you are having or not. Anyway, my problem was that I was trying to write too far out on the disc. That is, I had accepted the default max size in Shrink (4,360) instead of using something like 4,260. This ensures that your burner does not try to go all the way to the edge of the media. Even with all the the data you included, I can't tell if you're using Shrink, but if you are, it might be a good place to start.

    Hope this helps,

    DF

    well it burned but the movie plays for about 3 seconds and then freezes on my standalone...but its fine playing on my burners so it could be the standalone. It still didn't burn with nero directly only the plugin that shrink uses.

    I think there are only two built-in options that Shrink can use. One is Decrypter and the other is Nero. So it may indeed be using Nero. If you already knew this, sorry to waste your time. You actually got further than I did. Mine never got past 99%....it just hung there for over an hour. I guess my problem was altogether different.

    Have you tried using different media? I'd suggest picking a high quality rewritable such as Verbatim, Maxell or Sony until you get this sorted out.

    y2whisper I am also a proud owner of SOHW 812S and have had very good luck. I read a lot on A/D before I bought my burner and my media. As soon as I received my 812S and installed, I went and got the latest firmware USOQ. I also purchased a 25 pack of 4X DVD+R/W Ridata and a 25 pack of 8X+DVD+R since then I have made one coaster. And over a hundred perfect backups. To date I have only used one R/W and several times while experimenting. Sure saved making a lot of coasters. While I bought the 812S for the speed and price I have found that quality is better than speed. I had problems after installing the latest firmware and have settled for burning perfect disk at 6X with the 812S still using only Ridata GO5 8X-R disk. I just ordered another 100 inkjet printable at a price of .49 each from Supermediastore yesterday and today they have another price of .44 each.Evidently prices are begining to come down. Good luck to you.

    Y2Whisper,
    I agree with Nephilim, use a rewritable until it’s sorted out. Also even though I have hardware and media capable of burning at 4x & 8x I still just burn at 2x for consistency. One thing I noticed that has nothing to do with this problem is that you have DNA disabled on your DVD-ROM drive:
    === Scsi-Device-Map ===
    DiskPeripheral : WDC WD800JB-00ETA0 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On
    CdRomPeripheral : LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-812S atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: On
    CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8481B atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On
    CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST CD-ROM GCR-8520B atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: Off
    If you’re like me and use your DVD-ROM for ripping it might speed things up a bit, and help prevent other future problems.
