    You can't change + into -. It's not software related it's a physical difference

DVD Decrypter is a useful program for removing copy protection from commercial DVDs. Nothing will change a +r writer to -r. DVD-rw is a type of disc that can be written to more than once.

thecrow46, your PC burner can read ALL DVD-Rs, so all you have to do is make a DVD copy unto a DVD+R (read the original DVD-R in your DVD burner and copy onto a DVD+R).

Does your pc say the media's unsupported? Most newer drives support both. What brand of drive do you have? It seems that if you're just buying your first pack of recordable media, you must have just gotten your computer.

This information is from www.videohelp.com, so it's reliable.

According to this, your burner supports both + and - formats. There has to be something else going on.

If you're just inserting a blank -r disk and trying to see if there's anything on it, you probably will get an error saying it can't read the disk.

the error occurs when trying to burn

What programs are you using when you try to burn a disk? When do you see the error? Are you saying you have a disk that someone gave you that your drive won't read or are you saying that when you try to burn to a -r disk, the drive gives you an error?

Also, what exactly does the error say?

I'll be willing to bet that there's a firmware update that hasn't been installed. You have probably bought some 8x or 16x dvd-r media that the drive isn't compatible with unless you update the firmware.

Your drive will burn to -r according to the specs.

My buddy bought some 8x Memorex that he can't use on his Sony dvd burner. He didn't want to update the firmware because he was scared (there is a slight risk to doing it).

I'd bet this is the problem.
