my dvd player on my compaq laptop is faulty at the moment. I left it drop and i need to hold the drive in while starting windows to get windows to recognise it. This dvd drive is rewritable (dvd+rw) but windows doesnt recognise it a one but only as a cd+rw. Therefore I cannot write to my blank dvd's. Can anyone help me?

Windows (XP anyway) cannot write to a DVD disk in the same fashion that you can drag and drop files onto a CD and have Windows burn the disk.
It's normal for XP to refer to the DVD burner as a 'CD'.
If the problem is that the likes of Nero cannot write to a DVD disk, that's a different story.
