I have been burning my old vhs tapes to dvd. I want to make creative looking covers to stick on the surface of the dvds, but have heard that some paper causes problems for dvd players in reading your dvd. It seem that the weight of the paper and adhesive that is used causes the dvd to spin just a little slower or make the dvd player work a bit harder to play the dvdr. What do you all think? Which dvd cover paper is best to apply to the surface of the dvdr? Maybe thinner paper?

Because of the high speed of DVD roms the paper cause a woble or unbalancing effect. Get printable Discs and you'll do better but avoid paper.
