    Hello,

My Pioneer DVR-105 was replaced by an Pioneer DVR-MCC (different model no#??) from warranty on my Medion desktop. The problem I'm having is that the new unit won't record (Nero) any disc except a DVD+RW. The message I get is: This disc is not writable, please insert a Disc. The unit supports DVD+R/RW,DVD-R/RW,DVD+R9 dual layer. Disc type in recorder: DVD-R. When I put in a DVD-R disc, it kicks it out.

    When I record a movie with X-Copy (DVD-R), it completes it's task.

Can someone get me back on track. Thanks!!

I checked the Pioneer web site for the upgrade to the DVR-MCC. It had every other unit listed except the DVR-MCC. Could the unit be under another heading? I bought my Nero from Best Buy, so how do I get the upgrade? Thanks!!

Download DVdinfopro. It will tell you exactly what model and make your drive is.

    http://www.dvdinfopro.com.

    Nero updates from:

    www.nero.com.

    Jerry,

When I downloaded the site, it tells me the the unit is DVR-MCC. When I go to the Pioneer web-site, it doesn't list the DVR-MCC. Any other ideas?

I did a little research. Your drive is a modified DVR 108. This link may be of interest. From what I read it is possible to flash the MCC to a 108 but you need to know what you are doing. It also indicates the flash may make it dual layer. Here is the link. I think more research is needed on this. Good luck.

    Thanks Jerry...

Is there a step-by-step guide for me to follow to get this done? I don't want to make things worst by not knowing what I'm doing.

Do some searching on that same link I gave you. That site deals almost completely with firmware and flashing. Should be some guides on there somewhere.

Something else must be up because when I burn with X-Copy, I can burn with the R/RW +/- discs. Should I just erase everything and start over? I hope not.

FYI...After not being able to find my Nero disc, a new Nero with the firmware upgrades did the trick. Burning better/faster. Thanks!!
