I have a external (I/O Magic 250gb) connected to my laptop. I have mostly all my movies saved in my harddrive. When I try to burn a movie using dvd shrink it usually takes a good 45 mins (rate 2,800kb/s, but when I get a movie saved into my internal harddrive in my laptop it usally goes about 25-30 mins (5,000kb/s). I also have a 2nd external harddrive (Western Digital 125gb) connected to my desktop and the rate goes between (5,000-8,000kb/s). I just wanted to know if thats normal speed or if I could make the rate go faster.

you're running on the more limited functions of a laptop; that sounds about right to me.

Additionally your laptop may be operating with USB 1.0 and your desktop using USB 2.0 which would also show a descrepancy in times.
