Alright i know dvd shrink shrinks dvds to fit them on discs in a smaller format. About how much does it shrink them? If i have a 4gb disc and want to shrink it how much would it shrink it to? thnx

Shrink will compress a typical dual layer movie(8+gb) onto the smaller single layer disc(4.7gb) as you mention, but, putting a 4gb movie onto a DVD-5 requires no compression.

Just to add to what was already stated:

Shrink is set by default to compress a full movie backup to fit onto a DVD-5, which I believe consists of a file 4600MB in size? If you have a movie file whose size is only 4GB, Shrink isn't necessary, just burn the file to a DVD-5 disk using you favorite burning app.

    NOTE:
Shrink can also be set to produce custom file sizes. Run shrink and goto: file-->edit... in the first tab that opens, choose custom from the dropdown menu and then enter the size of the file you want shrink to produce.
