    gkeylow,
Use DVDDecrypter and rip the file to HD and then use Shrink to compress those file also to HD. Now delete the DVDecrypter files and the Shrink files are on your HD so you can play them
You could also have left the DVDDecrypter files on the HD and then usually right click the 1st .ifo file and bring up the movie if you want to play the movie. If that does not play the movie then click on the first .vob file

I tried using Shrink alone to moved the files to my HD before your reply. Can shink alone do this.. or is DVDDecrypter a must?

I did get the files to my HD but it wouldn't play in WinDVD. Ill try again.

    Thanks

    gkeylow,
If you right click the 1st movie file ( vob) tell it to play it in Windows Media player. If it was ripped correctly it will play. I do this all the time when I go on company business. Load the movies on the computer and play them later.
Either program can do this but if it is the newer Sony movies you will need the newest version of DVDDD to rip it. I normally rip it to HD using DVDD then use Shrink to save to HD so the movie is only about 4 GB of more of data. The I right click the first .vob to play it in media player

    Hi Guys,

I am a novice in DVD burning but my problem is very similar to the one on this thread. I have used DVD Shrink to save the DVD on my HD in the 3 type of files (.IFO, .VOB and .BUF) and in two folders namely Audio and Video.

How can I burn them on a DVD and run it on a normal DVD player. I have a DVD burner installed on my Dell laptop and the software that I have is Sonic. I tried burning them as a data DVD and it was of no use as it did burn it but it does not play (even in Media PLayer).

Can someone give me a step by step process of burning it with Sonic or would ou recommend some other software....do I need to buy it....I am hearing that Nero is good....is it available free for a trial period so that I can get comfortable with it before I spend the $$.

Thanks guys, all help is higly appreciated.....novices like me get a lot of help from thse forums.

    Thanks

Download the new version of DVD Decrypter (free), you already have DVD Shrink. These two programs will enable to burn/backup DVD. You can download Nero it is nice program and I have used it for years, it is very versatile. Go to these sites for guides on programs and all your questions will be answered on how to backup

    http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/
    http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/petesguide2.html

You can also download free trial program AnyDVD which is handy program to have, it runs in background and breaks encryption on DVD allowing DVD Shrink to read newer disks.

    Hi arniebear,

Thanks for your response...although I do have some more questions.

Firstly you did mention to download Nero. Here I guess you mean to download Nero Burning ROM (6.6 version). Isnt this a software you need to buy....I dont mind buying it but I was just checking if you meant to buy it or download it for free from some site (download.com). I did download a demo version from the site but it did not work. I shall try to see if there is some other download available on the site.

I also wanted to know if you knew if I could burn it using Sonic (the software installed on my laptop) at all.

    Thanks

Vamo, if you can go to Nero.com and download the Ultra Edition demo/trial version, make sure you download the first three packages, do not bother with InCD. The trial is good for a month. However, your best bet is to use DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink. Follow the guides by Scuba Pete and BBMayo and you will have no problems. I have laptop I use to burn DVD's and this is the best route I know. I do not know much about Sonic program. You can use DVD Decrypter to rip DVD to your hard drive and then try the Sonic program. You can also use another program called AnyDVD available for trial at Slysoft.com this program works in the background and will break encryption on DVD. Then you can open your Sonic program and see if it will burn your DVD. Hope this answere some questions.

    Hi,

I did use DVD decrypter and yes it is really easy and I had no problems in burning the movies from my HD to a disk....all I need now is to try it on a normal DVD player which is more of a formality.

thanks for all ur help...highly appreciated.

    @Vamo

Glad to hear your backup went well, the programs is easy to use and I have not made a coaster yet. If you have any problems come on back and we will try to solve them.

    Hi,

I am back with more problems. My DVD Decrypter free trial is coming to an end and so do you suggest that I go and buy this or should I try some other software....I dont think the Decrypter is free for ever?

Now that I am comfortable with burning the DVD's on my HD I wanted to know if there is a step by step guide on Scuba for burning multiple movies on a single DVD....I think I read the article somewhere but not sure where.

    Can you help.

    Thanks

DVD Decrypter is a free program, unless of course you want to donate to the author Lightning UK. You can rip two movies to the hardrive and place them on the same disk. Go to the bbmayo guide in my sig and look for guide on joining two movies together.

Well, whenever I opne the program it coutns the days down and at the moment it says I have 9 days to go and then there is a charge of $40. I guess there is something else that I am missing. I may have to wait for the trial period to finish and see what happens. If they do charge me then I can probably come bach here and ask for the link from where I can download it for free....

Thanks anyways and will let u know how I go with 2 DVD's at a time.

    This is a great forum

You are talking about AnyDVD, and yes it costs 40.00 and well worth the price. No there is no way for you to get it from anyone here for free. If you want free then use DVD Decrypter the newest version handles all the new protected movies.

    Arniebear,

If a DVD is region protected, how can I come to know as to which region does it pertain to as DVD Shrink does ask for specifying a region....do u guess it would be US, Canada always....
