I'm trying to make a back up of one of my R1 DVD movies.

I copying from DVD to VHS and the image is black & white. The picture is perfect, no jumping, speed issues etc... but no colour?

    Can anyone help?

    Hi,

R1 dvds are encoded in NTSC video format, and your VHS recorder (depending where you live of course) is probably a PAL one. Many PAL videos will play NTSC fine but most won't record properly in this format - recording NTSC to PAL usually results in loss of colour.

To record successfully you'd either have to get a vhs video that records NTSC or a signal converter box.

    Cheers,
    Taq.

Thanks TAQ. That seems to be my problem. Where would I get a converter from?

Many web sites do them (you could have a look in google.co.uk), but one place I have dealt with before is Keene Electronics, which you can find on
    http://www.keene-electronics.co.uk/system/keene.htm
and follow the links from products->conversion

They sell the SB3600 NTSC TO PAL CONVERTOR for about £60, which converts a true NTSC signal, which should be what a dvd player with a r1 disc outputs. No idea what it's like though.
