We have an extensive DVD movie collection. Will a DVD upconversion give us better quality on a digital CRT Sony WEGA TV? The TV is not HD, but is digital.

No. Upconversion DVD players are for HDTVs only. There purpose is to change Standard-Def DVD video (480i over Composite Video, or S-Video, or Component Video) into something closer to HDTV video (720p/1080i/1080p over HDMI with HDCP).

What you need is a progressive scan DVD video (480p over Component Video) player. You won't use the progressive scan video part but when you upgrade you tv you won't need to upgrade your DVD player right away.
