DVD9 games have to be patched?

    Does DVD9 (double layer) games have to be patch first in order to work on the ps2?

    depends on how your system is modded.
    Most top notch chips like DMS4 Pro will load them
    other chips you can use ToxicDL Patcher and patch it first.
    But if you use Swap Magic you are out of luck.

    does matrix infinity need dvd9 to be patched first?

    No. The Matrix Infinity Green Dot chip has Dual Layer support. Hold Triangle + Circle as you boot the PS2, select DVDDL Support = On (it defaults to Off), then hit Start to save and then reset your PS2. You're ready to go.
