DVD's Audio format

    What's the default audio format and its bitrate used rate for Movies and Musical shows DVDs?

    A difficult question, as there are several.
    I assume you are talking about DVD-Video format? In which case this should really be in the DVD-R or Audio forum - this one is for high resolution such as SACD/DVD-A really. But here we go.

    PAL countries.
    DVD-V disc MUST contain either 16/48 PCM, Dolby Digital in 2/0 or 3/2 or MPG-1 Layer 2 Audio.
    DTS is considered optional. A DVD cannopt contain DTS Audio alone, as it is out of spec.
    Bitrates are:
    PCM = 1.536MB/sec
    DD 2/0 = 0.192MB/sec
    DD 3/2 = 0.448MB/sec
    MPG = same as DD, near enough. Can be adjusted though, as can DD, but not recommended.

    NTSC Countries
    Same as PAL, but without the MPG option.
