    dorian45,

Installing Adapted ASPI v4.71.2 into XP

    1)Click Start, then Run
2)Click Browse, then choose Local Disk
    3)Click Adaptec, then ASPI
    4)Click Install, then Open

    Will look as follows:
    C:adaptecaspiinstall.bat

5)Now type xp32 at the end. Make sure you space after .bat
    C:adaptecaspiinstall.bat xp32

6)Click Ok, reboot. Now run aspichk. Should look as follows:

    ASPI32.SYS 4.71.2
    WOWPOST.EXE Not Installed
    WINASPI.DLL Not Installed
    WNASPI32.DLL 4.71.2

I installed per your instructions which are the same as the adaptec info .
I did not get the desired result .
    aspichk looks like this:

    ASPI32.sys 4.71.2
    WOWPOST.EXE 4.6
    WINASPI.DLL 4.6
    WNASPI32.DLL 4.71.2

How do I get rid of the wowpost .exe and the winaspi.dll?

    dorian45,

Try doing this. Click start, then run. In the run box just type. [bold]C:\adaptec\aspi\install.bat xp32[/bold]. You could just cut and paste it into the run box. Then reboot and run aspichk.

No effect. Reads as before . Could my problem be that I installed this version over the aspi 1.7 version without removing it ?
A search reveals 4 instances of the WOWPOST file , 2 go back to 9/1999 and 2 are dated 8/2002.

    There are 6 instances of the winaspi32.dll file, 2 dated 8/2002 and 4 dated 9/1999 .

I thought I could remove them but I can't tie them to a specific application .

    dorian45,

One other person had the same problem. What he did is delete all of his aspi files. Then ran the install again. Also you can use ForceASPI which is 1.7. If you install ForceASPI, and run aspichk.. all dll's will read 4.60(this will also work). The most important thing about installing an aspi layer is installing a [bold]working[/bold] aspi layer.

321 sent me a 12 step (honest..that's what they call it) list of things to try. One was disabling the CD burner in device manager. I did this and now the Plextor will find a blank DVD and burn it.

I burned 2 but the neither the Liteon DVD ROM or the Plexor burner will recognize the burned discs and play them.(

    dano28,

First off, what all did you do(so called 12 steps)? And it is true about your cd burner, 2 burners on the same ide cable is not good. Make dvd burner master on one with your dvd rom as its slave. And if you still wanna use your cd burner, make it a slave on another ide cable. Also have you tried playing the 2 movies on a standalone?

Last, what version of Platium are you using? 321 is right you can't get the most recent version anywhere, but you can get the last ripper version v4.0.3.8

    flip..
    Ok
1.."windows updates"..just did that rebuilding my system
2.."MSConfig"..eleminate all start-up programs which I tried but didn't help
3.. "Blacklist" ..a list of programs/software that are known to cause problems with DVDXCopy. I had none on my machine.
4.."ASPI Layer update" ..I did this earlier, didn't help.
5.."Firmware" Plextor has none for windowsXP Pro.
6.."Master/Slave for DVD burner" ribbon cable issue. Mine is correct.
7.."Archive.txt error in Xpress and Platinum" didn't apply in my case.
8.."What are TDF Files, and where can I get them?" Havn't tried this yet, but didn't seem to apply.
    9.."Error Reading Sectors" didn't apply.
    10.."Archive.txt Error" Email Solution:.. I didn't understand
11.."Start button does not appear for writing" Paragraph 3) covers the DVD/CD burners butting heads issue which finally allowed the burning of the blank disc.

I feel that progress is being made even though the burned discs are un-playable.

    Thanks

    dano28,

Ok first get v4.0.3.8 at http://www.filesearching.com and search dvdxcopy. Which aspi layer did you install? v4.71.2 or ForceASPI1.7(4.60)? If you did 4.71, run aspichk and tell me what dll's are installed. Also can you play those movies in a standalone?

Blah, blah, blah .... I have everything running in msconfig. In both of my systems, so I don't think that ever helps. Shoot, I even keep my firewall and antivirus running :)

Yeah..that did nothing for me either.

Ok. The burned discs will not play on our TV set's DVD player either.

I got the 471a2 version of ASPI download.

I will try to find and update my program version.

    Thanks

    dano28,

When you run "aspichk", what does it say? Does it say this:
    ASPI32.SYS 4.71.2
    WOWPOST.EXE Not Installed
    WINASPI.DLL Not Installed
    WNASPI32.DLL 4.71.2

If not try to re-install this way

    1)Click Start, then Run
2)Click Browse, then choose Local Disk
    3)Click Adaptec, then ASPI
    4)Click Install, then Open

    Will look as follows:
    C:\adaptec\aspi\install.bat

5)Now type xp32 at the end. Make sure you space after .bat
    C:\adaptec\aspi\install.bat xp32

6)Click Ok, reboot. Now run aspichk. Should look as follows:

    ASPI32.SYS 4.71.2
    WOWPOST.EXE Not Installed
    WINASPI.DLL Not Installed
    WNASPI32.DLL 4.71.2

    Flip..

I tried the ASPICHK thing when you gave the instructions to dorian45 but I couldn't get it to work like I do not get local disk when I click Browse.

Good news is that since downloading and installing the update for DVDXCopy it WORKS !!! Burned discs now play. I will just need to figure a way around the CD/DVD burners on the same cable issue. There was never a problem before I rebuilt my computer last week.

Thank you very very much for the help and your patience..

You have to click the icon which looks like a folder with a green arrow. This will get you to your program files. Or you can just type or even paste this into your run box: [bold]C:\adaptec\aspi\install.bat xp32[/bold]

But lets not do that yet ... especially when everything is working. That great.

If I enter "aspichk" in RUN, I'm told that it can't find it.

If I try SEARCH it finds two files (?) I opened both and get rhe same box showing the four entries you say should be there except the second and third lines do not say "Not Installed"

    Do you think there's a problem ??

    dano28,

    To find aspichk:
    1) Open "My Computer"
    2) Click Local Disk
    3) Click Adaptec folder, then aspi folder.
    4) Here you'll find aspichk. Double click that and hopefully you see this.
    ASPI32.SYS 4.71.2
    WOWPOST.EXE Not Installed
    WINASPI.DLL Not Installed
    WNASPI32.DLL 4.71.2

Now, if you don't see this. Click start, then run. Now cut and paste this [bold]C:\adaptec\aspi\install.bat xp32[/bold] into the run box. Then reboot.
