I had this same problem. The fix I found was that my DVD Recorder was set to the wrong region. Go to Device Manager and right click the DVD/CdRom. Then go properties and click on regions. Check to see that the region matches your country. Remember Windows XP only lets you change the region 4 times. I found that my region was set to United Kingdom. Once I changed it to the counrty I lived-in that matched the DVD movies everything was fine. This happens with DVR-105 Pioneer DVD because the firmware upgrades are produced elseware. I suppose it is the same for all brands of DVD's. Hope this helps, remember all these DVD's are imported to your counrty from elseware.

Why not flash your drive & make it RPC1 (region free) Sharon

There is a Pioneer DVR 2x4all firmware that'll help you rip a little faster if your only getting upto x2.5 on a rip/unencrypt..
