thinking about getting the Eurovox MAx 2008 over coming days.

Have N*L in Dublin. anybody recommend what is best firmware & etc to use.

Do you know if you can connect this box to a wireless router, so that can update laptop with cables?

there is only one firmware for this eurovox at the moment and you cannot connect to a wireless router. you need to connect to a serial port via a null modem cable.

null modem cables are serial (9-pin).

my laptop hasn't got these connections - is there an adapter (e.g. serial to USB) available on the cheap?

you need a usb to serial port adapter to use with the null modem cable. you cannot use a usb to serial cable it wouldn't work.

    forgive my ignorance.

Any usb to serial adapter I see on Ebay is basically cable with USB connection one end, RS232 on the other.

Is that what you mean or is there a simple adapter piece with RS232 one side, USB the other?

you need ome that you can plug the null modem cable into. with a socket on one end identical to the socket on the back of the eurovox.

sorry, my question was not clear.

will a cable with serial one end, USB other act as a adpater (i.e. connected onto null modem cable) or is the adapter required just a tiny piece that has the serial one side, teh usb the other (no cable between)

I ask this because if there is cable in adpater between the serial and USB, I presume that this may interfere with signal between PC and reciver, else why need a 'null modem cable' in first place.

    am i making any sense?
    cheer
