Expand video before compression?

    I have 320x240 video captured from my DV camcorder. My question is the best way to compress the video for archival purposes. I noticed that AutoGK was encoding my videos at a larger size (576x432). Is this better than just compressing it at 320x240? In other words, is

    Source 320x240 --> Expand to 576x432 --> Compress to divx --> View

    better than

    Source 320x240 --> Compress to divx --> View at 576x432 (expand on playback)?

    Does it retain better quality to expand the video before compression? Assuming I don't care much about file size?... Or is it totally worthless to do this?

    Thanks...

    Best thing would be to capture the DV losslessly at its native resolution of 720x576/480.
