If I was gonna re-format my hard drive, would backing up my applications on to my external hard mean that when i finsihed re-formatting it, I wouldn't have to install it?
you may not need tro reinstall the software apps but you still need the operating system and you may need to put the icons back and all the programs back on the start menu that link to the external drive.
