    try assigning it a different drive letter in Disk Management, in case there's a conflict.

    (Start->Run then type diskmgmt.msc)

    Formatting the external HD probably won't help here. I suppose you could try updating the driver for the HDD in Device Manager, but I'm not confident that'll work.

    to be more specific it occurs when i enter a sub folder the main folders i can view fine without it crashing. Could it be a bad usb cable? Can't be the usb b/c i connect to my psp with no problems.

    Can it not do it automatically?
    What brand is the external hard drive?

    It could potentially be the USB cable, if you have another, it's worht trying it. Also try a different USB port. The bandwidth required for an external hard drive is much greater than for a PSP.

    its a hitachi dk23ba. Should i just run the driver update and see if itll update itself because i cancelled when it asked for a cd. Really annoying since it holds my backup psp games and when i try to go into that specific folder it exits

    out of interest, do you get any errors when browsing the drive through a dos console?

    e.g.
    start->Run
    type cmd
    press enter

    (change drive letter and folder names where appropriate)

    E:
    cd pspbackup
    cd Game1
    Game1.file

    uninstall the usb ports in device manager & restart windows so can find new hardware & load it's driver. what chipset is the motherboard & what windows are you using?

    sam, i've got 4x your post count at 32,348 & they are not all mod posts.

    I don't doubt it. I wasn't boasting at all, that was kind of the point I made in the other thread. I only really have the knowledge to make it worth posting in one section of the forum.

    i tried running the update again and it said cannot find updates that are better then your current software or something. I dont mind using another computer to transfer files but cant understand on why it wont work on this computer

    I can only presume there's a corrupt driver for the external enclosure you're using on your PC. You've tried a different cable and different USB port, yes?
