External USB Hard Drive & dual boot O/S

    Hi need a little bit of advice if someone would be so kind.

    If I got a 500GB external USB HDD attached to a PC running Vista Premium would I be able to create a dual boot system by installing and running Winxp on the external drive.

    i've heard you can, but from what i hear its a pain in the ass but you have to make sure your computer will reconize the drive as a valid boot device. look in your motherboard manual. it may say something in there about that option. if it doesnt then im sorry but you probably cant

    There are ways, but it requires being a dab hand with editing OS config files and possibly a bit of hex editing. me and my mates weren't able to achieve it, and we like to think we know what we're doing!

    Thanks for reply, I think I may give the idea a miss, sounds alot more hastle than it's worth.

    Yea sounds like one of them jobs you think will take 5mins, and you're still at it 2 weeks later. :)
