it was probably that fast becuz it is a SL disk, any SL disk should take around(depending how clean it is) 5-8 minutes.

    Size of dvd: Dvd-9/Dvd-5
    Bit-rate
    Processor speed/ram
Drive doing the ripping, some can be set faster
    Compression
Program being used for the ripping

My record, dvd-5 original onto a blank single layer disc:
0 mins to rip,15 mins to burn at 4x. Rip and burn on the fly using nero's copy disc feature and anydvd to pull off the encryption.

Larger the size of the movie, the longer it takes.

Majority of the older flicks will be dvd-5's,with little bonus footage. Very small, and very quick to backup. Now you get some larger dvd-9's,then those times slow down.

Try the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Harry Potter series and see how your times are.

Speed should not be the inportant part of burning just the finished product if you burn a blazing coaster what's the point

Using DVDFab Decrypter and my trusty old LiteOn DVD ROM I will usually rip in under 3 min. If I use anyother drive (includinging a Plextor SATA) I can't seem to do better than 5 min. This is one reason I speak so highly of LiteOn in the forum. :)
