i downloaded a fedora install DVD and was using it to upgrade from fedora 5. However it crashed during the install and kinda messed up my fedora 5 install. During start-up it says nautilus crashed and doesnt boot. I have tried the test cd option on the disk and it passed no problem so im wondering why it crashes during installation. I'm not totally sure how to get the sha1 from my downloaded file, i tried using a php script but it just kinda was hanging. Im wondering if theres a command i can use in linux to get the sha1 of the dvd to check it matches the one supplied by redhat.

    Thx

I have seen a lot of people have this problem with FC6.
It seems to be something to do with incompatable user config files left on the drive. (very common with all flavours of linux)

This sounds like an issue with it.. http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mjm-fedora-fc6.html#problems

and does this seem familiar? http://digitaldarragh.com/archive/2007/03/19/fedora-core-6-installation-notes.aspx

Try the fedora wiki for the latest news/fixes.. http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/
and linux-questions where I know others have found answers to this issue.. http://www.linuxquestions.org/

Don't like redhat/fedora myself.. but lots of people do so they must be doing something right.
