Sony Vaio VCG-RA820G computer with Pioneer DVR-108 burner. Sony provides software updates (for preloaded titles)and driver updates as part of their Vaio update service. They claim that firmare version 1.10 for this burner is the latest (as of Feb. 2005), but on the Pioneer website, there are firmware updates all the way up to the latest 1.19 version. As I am still under the 1 year warranty, I have only upgraded from the Sony site thusfar, but would like to know if I am that many firmware upgrades out of date.

Best place for "safe" firmware is the maufactures website. Sony doesn't make the drive. Your fine if you use the Pioneer websites firmware.
