Could anyone please recommend me software that will enable me to shrink files from say 1-2 GB onto a CD-R? If that isn't possible or quality loss is gonna be too great, a program that splits the file into the amount of necessary CD's will do? Can I do anything like this with Nero?
    Thanks.
    Richard.

Nero can burn to CDs, Nero Recode2 should be able to compress as well as split the files into CD sized portions.

Do you know of any other programs that will compress or shrink an asf, avi, mpeg file so a whole movie will fit on a CDR as a video CD, the Nero Recode I have will only allow me to Shrink fit an actual DVD file, not an asf, avi etc...
    thanks!

virtualdub or virtualdubmod to split it.

if the source is good. and you want to compress.
    try xvid.
or if you want to use nero recode use its AVC codec.

i'm too tired, try looking at the guide sect

Perhaps look at a program called DVD-Squeeze......it's supposed to be one of the latest programs to copy DVD's to a CD.
