A friend of mine gave me her old gateway computer that only has about 2 gig hard drive. I wante to format it and install xp. I did that but I messed up the install somehow and now I have 2 installations of xp. One is completely installed and the other just partial. Also my cd drive is not recognized even though I know it is working because I used it to install xp. How can I format the hard drive and start over. Help please!

start the computer and have it boot from the xp disc. it will then give you the option to reformat and install a fresh copy. I guess thats if it will let you since your cd drive is not recognized. Go into the bios and see if it sees the cd drive.

re-install it, and delete your partion ,then make new 1 ,an continue with fresh install on raw hd,worse case take the harddrive out an put it in another pc as a slave drive then reformatt, helps when you lose admin rghts.
