    Part 1):
    What I have:
[*]I'm trying to update my PSP and am very cautious about "BREAKING" it.
    [*]I have a TA-082 System.
    [*]I have Firmware 2.71 installed.
    [*]I have both the 3.6 2200mAh & 3.6v 1800mAh Battery Packs
[*]I have just formated my 2GB Memory Stick and have added a new folder in the root directory which I have named "iso".

What I would like to be able to do:
[*]The ability to downgrade to 1.0 or 1.5 to be able to use Homebrew.
[*]The ability to use emulators/games for other handhelds/consoles.
[*]The ability to use the most up-to-date firmware (3.11) that is currently available or as close as I can get.
[*]The ability to play PSP/UMD Media that requires the most up-to-date firmware (3.11) or as close as I can get.

Consider me a novice, consider me a noob, ...hell just consider me stupid...
I started playing around with my PSP by successfully converting video files with PSPVideo9. I've also successfully tinkered around with MOD-ing the PSP and was able to run backed-up copies of my media using DevHook, but that was as far as I had gotten. Being that I've got a TA-082 System, I had decided to wait awhile before updating the Firmware in case there was anyway to run Homebrew in the future. As I've being digging through this site I've found alot of confusing information, but I have not been able to find anything that fully and clearly describes how to do what it is that I am trying to do. I understand that I could just simply update with the latest firmware from Sony's website in order to use my new UMD (Ratchet & Clank), but that wouldn't be quite as fun.

Is there anyone that can point me in the right direction to find the proper instructions on how to do this or can anybody please help?

    Extremely Frustrated...

    Part 2):
    UPDATE:
I've found this information here: http://forums.qj.net/f-psp-hacks-9/t-guidethe-ultimate-downgrader-guide-90916.html#post1332936 and have been able to successfully downgrade with these instructions...

    2.71 PSP (TA-082 or TA-086) Guide:

    Files needed:
    TA-082 2.71 Downgrade Files
    Official FW1.50 Update Eboot

[1] Open both downloaded files and extract to the PSP.
    - Copy everything from 271DG.rar file to the ROOT (ms0:\) directory of your Memory Stick. (Do not copy into ms0:\MP_ROOT)
    - Rename the dowloaded 1.5 EBoot Update to UPDATE.PBP, then copy the file over to the ms0:\PSP\GAME\UPDATE directory.
[2] Now exit your PSP fully by holding the power button in for 5 Seconds. After rebooting you will then need to run "HEN D" by navigating to the photo menu and entering the HEN D folder. (If your PSP crashes or a Red screen comes up, you will then need to try again.)

(Your power cable now needs to be connected and you must have at least a 75% Charge on your Battery.)

[3] Go to the GAME Menu and then run the "idstoragechange" file.
(It will now recycle back to the main menu.)
[4] Go back to the GAME Menu and then run the "Update X.YZ" file.
[5] When your PSP has finished downgrading, Press "X" to Restart your PSP.
[6] When you now turn your PSP on, you will come to a Blue Screen, Press "O".
    [7] You now have a Firmware 1.50, TA-082 PSP.

Well now, it seems to have worked...
However, my background is a peach like orange.
Why is that and how do I change it?
...and can I now add my own *.jpg file as a background?

Now that I've Downgraded to 1.50 Firmware, what will I need to do next... ?
What is the Difference between DevHook v0.52 and 3.10 OE-A Custom Firmware?
Do I still need to have HEND on my Memory Stick?
Finally, what files can I now remove from the PSP Memory Card?

(...I've now reformatted my Memory Stick,
everything seems like an Out-Of-Box untouched FW1.50 PSP...)

Thanks for any help you can give...
    A little less frustrated...

Difference between 1.50 and OE firmwares is that theres is no real need for DevHook, OE can run basicly all that a 1.50 can.
OE firmware has the ability for various plugins to be enabled from the memory stick without writing to the flash.
In short, 3.03 OE-C is the best firmware out at the mo.
There is a download in my sig.

Will I be able to use "iso" files with this as well?
Can I play the new Ratchet & Clank game?
What else am I able to do & What is needed to play PS1 games?

    Thanks...

What is the difference between the 3.10 OE-A UPGRADE and the 3.03 OE-C UPGRADE?

You can use ISO and CSO with OE.
    3.03OE-C is more customizable.
You can only play PS1 games with these OE firmwares.

Please keep in mind that since I have down graded from 2.71 to 1.50 I have formated my memory stick. It is now clean and I've also added an iso folder in the root directory.

Do I need to put HEN-D back onto the Mem Stick?

What is "Recovery"? Should I add it and if so how do I set it up?

Should I add the 3.03 OE-C upgrade last? How Do I do that?

Can anyone point me to a thread that lets me know how to do this?
    ...or...
Can anyone tell me what to do next?

    Thanks, :)

Hmm...well, we have another set of questions that could of been found by answering. HEN D is for 2.71 psps only, recovery is only available thru custom firmware (3.0x OE, 2.71 SE, and some 1.50 custom firmwares, google em), if you want to upgrade to OE-C, then read the readme in it.

    Part 4):
    UPDATE:
Well so far I've done everything on my own as nobody here seems to want to answer any questions. Or it is quite possible that you all are as clueless as I am.

    • The next step I've decided to take was to install 3.03 OE-C:
[1] First I downloaded the 3.03 OE-C.rar file and decompressed the file.
[2] I then turned on the PSP & attached the USB Cable.
      [3] Then I copied the folders 303oeflasher & 303oeflasher% to the ms0:/PSP/GAME directory.
[4] I then went to the GAME Menu, then ran the "3.03 OE-C" and followed the instructions.
[5] After rebooting I removed the update file and tested by placing a file in a folder that I'd created earlier.
[6] I rebooted again and navigated to the GAME Menu, tested with a UMD in the Drive and everything seems to be working fine.

I'm still unsure as to how to run home brew on my system, but from what I've seen it looks like I just need to place the file in the ms0:/PSP/GAME Directory and navigate to the GAME Menu to select the software.

If anyone has any suggestions tips or answers, please post...

    Thanks Again...

Format your MS in your PSP now and all default folders will be created.
You then just need to put your homebrews into the GAME150 folder as most homebrew need 150 kernal to run.
Place yyour ISO or CSO into the ISO folder at the root of your MS scroll to the MS icon under GAME and your ISO or CSO will show there.

Thanks for the info Sudds, as to the negativity of my postings I was not refering to you. You've been the most helpful one here. ...the only helpful one here it seems.

I figured out the ISO/CSO part out on my own and it seems to work fine so far. However, when I hold down the R Button I get the Recovery Menu. I went to Configuration and set NO-UMD to Enabled. After I rebooted and tried to access an ISO/CSO through the GAME Menu/Memory Stick, my system freezes. After going back and resetting NO-UMD to Disabled and placeing a UMD in the drive evrything seems ok.

Now I've also noticed that in the Configuration menu there is also an option that is labeled Game Folder Homebrew (currently: 3.03 Kernel). I can change that to 1.50 Kernel. I'm assuming that If I place Homebrew in the ms0:\PSP\GAME\ Directory and switch that option to 1.50 Kernel that I'll be able to access and use Homebrew by simply navigating to GAME Menu/Memory Stick and selecting what I want to use. Does this mean that I will have to still create a GAME150 folder or is that now made redundant by the option that I've found?

These are the links that I've used to get as far as I have...
    TA-082 2.71 Downgrade Files
    Official FW1.50 Update Eboot
    3.03 OE-C UPGRADE
If you follow my instructions you will be were I am...
(...so far my PSP has not turned into a Brick)

Thanks again for your help Sudds!!!

No problem DZStryker, in fact you are by far the easiest person to explain things to.
The fact you worked out that running your GAME folder in 150 kernal does indeed make the GAME150 folder redundant is a testament to your savy.
I do recommend GAME to run 150 kernal.
The NO-UMD option does not work with all games mate, so your better off leaving it disabled and keep a UMD in the drive. ;P

Ohh, an out of pure itchy fingers.... ya got me!

I've played around with DevHook 0.46 with HEN C before for ISO/CSO's.
I found that it was a real pain at first, though I was lucky enough to find the proper settings moments before they were taken down. It just sucked that I wasn't able to run Homebrew before but with the Downgrade to FW1.50 then Upgrade to 3.03 OE-C, I'm really liking what I'm seeing so far.
Now I'm at a point were I'm just not sure of what to do next, I've still yet to download any Emulators or Homebrew and from what I've seen I can customize the XMB. But as to how to do this, to me has yet to be known....

    Any suggestions?

For those of you like myself, that may have found Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters floating around out there in Cyberspace and are running CFW 3.03 OE-C, upon reboot this is what you need to do to get it working.

    Enter the recovery menu:
Press & Hold the R Button
    Switch on the Power

    Change the following settings to...

    Configuration ->
Game Folder Homebrew (Currently: 3.XX Kernal)
    Use NO-UMD (Currently:Disabled)
    Fake Region (Currently:America)
    Free UMD Region(Currently: Enabled)

    Advanced ->
    -Advanced Configuration-
Plain modules in UMD/ISO (Currently: Enabled)

    CPU Speed ->
    Speed in UMD/ISO (Currently: 266 or 333)
    (If 266mhz doesn't work, try 333mhz.)

    Plugins ->
    Disabled
    (Do not use Plugins)

    Hope this helps...

Just a quick update to my last posting...

From what I've found, there is absolutely no in game music for the ISO.

This game is very short and the controls are a little frustrating for the Jetboard section. I've found that it plays like a cheap, cartoonie, big headed, knock off of the original. Don't get me wrong, it is fun for the most part, but after Deadlocked something feels out of place...

Here are the Skill Points to keep you busy:

    Pokitaru
Train Faster: Complete the "Training" portion of Pokitaru in less than 1:32.
Don't Rock the Boat: Complete the boat challenge on Pokitaru without taking a single hit.
Do Cows Get Crabby: Turn 26 crabs into cows with the Mootator/Armoogeddon.

    Ryllus
Bury the Pygmies: Get Bury Blossoms to eat 4 Pygmy Tribesmen.
(You need to get 5 Eaten when in Challenge Mode)
Lights, Camera, Action!: Kill 10 floating cameras.
Ship It: Break all the crates on the level.

    Kalidon
Explosive Ordnance Disposal: Clear all the remote bombs in the Gravity Boot sphere.
Super Lombax: Kill 25 enemies in a row without getting a single hit.
Be A Cool Skyboarder: Win a Skyboarding race without using a single boost.

    Metalis
Shutout: Win a Gadgetbot Toss challenge without letting anyone else score.
Terror of the Skies: Get over 600 points in the Giant Clank Challenge.
(950 is needed in Challenge Mode)
Ultimate Gladiator: Complete all Clank Arena challenges.

    Dreamtime
Friends Don't Hurt Friends: Get through the Giant Clank fight without getting a single hit.
Night Terrors: Defeat the waves of enemies on the last island in under 45 seconds.

    Medical Outpost Omega
Be An Awesome Skyboarder: Beat the master challenge in under 3:25.

    Challax
Take Them Down A Shock: Kill 23 Shock Troopers without dying.
High Tech Weapons Master: Beat the enemy segment without using the Lacerator, Acid Bomb Glove, Concussion Gun, Shock Rocket, Laser Tracer, Sniper Mine, or RYNO.
No More Varmints!: Get Over 1535 points in the Giant Clank challenge.
(2000 points are needed in Challenge Mode)

    Dayni Moon
Ultimate Gladiator: Complete all Clank Arena challenges.
Wool Protest: Complete level 8 without killing any Angry Rams.
Bouncy, Bouncy, Bouncy: High-jump on a bouncy plant 10 times in a row.

    Inside Clank
Not The Shock Of Me Now: Don't get hit at all while inside Clank's head.
Ratchet... Just Ratchet: Beat the enemy segment using only the wrench.

    Quodrona
Elite Annihilation: Defeat over 70 Elite clones during the Elite clone fight.
Storm The Front: Complete the enemy portion of level 10 in less than 1:45.

    Have fun...

You dont want the 3.10 upgrade yet as you cant change your icons in the topmenu-plugin or it will semi-brick, stay on 3.03 OE-C for now.
The topmenu download, when flashed, changes your icons in the XMB.
Gameboots change the bootscreen, IE whenever you select a UMD or homebrew you get like a wee intro, these change this intro.
