I got tired of the fact that the only soundtrack out there for Super Smash Bros. Melee is a badly-clipped monstrosity that is simply unlistenable, and decided to extract the music straight from the game itself. So I've been taking a look at the files in the game. There is a handy, unambiguous directory called "audio", and the files within are semi-descriptive (pstadium.hps, castle.hps, etc.).

Obviously, these are propriety audio formats. Judging by the sizes, I am going to guess that the .HPS format is similar to .MP3 and .OGG. A lot of them are several megs in size, and one called swm_15min.hps is actually over 30 megs large.

I haven't had a whole lot of luck tracking down utilities that can extract proper audio from these file formats. Anyone have any clues where I might look?

    Thanks!
