I own a USB Xbox 360 controller and I really enjoy using it for PC games. Generally, I think Battlefield has too many buttons to press for a gamepad, but I think that if you were to get a pad a 360 controller would be something to consider. Plus, you end up with a spare 360 controller if you ever get one.=D

the gamepads are noce and work well for a lot of sports or racing games. But i have had bad luck using them for shooters. I have the exact pad you listed above, but without the rumble. I tried configuring it to work with Half-Life 2 EP 1 and had no luck. Just too many keys for a shooter game. That and could never get the walk/look axis set right no matter how hard i tried.
    I finally invested in this:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823161019
and it works well, plus has quite a few games auto programed in. You open it's control panel, select your game and it will automatically set all the keys for you for that game.

some other things to check out:

    http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=334154&Pn=P2600_Rumble_Force_GamePad
or others that may have auto program features for certain games. I know they are out there
