    Hi,
My PC was having some problems so I formated my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP Professional SP2. I installed all the drivers and everything seemed to be working fine. I installed some of my games, including Unreal Tournament 2004, Half Life 2, and Sniper Elite. Unreal Tournament 2004, when I ran it, would hang on the splash screen indefinitely. Half-Life 2 would start up, but on the "Loading..." screen it would just crash. :( Sniper Elite would start loading but then give me an error that said "Unable to launch DirectSound - a compatible sound card or driver was not detected".

What's the problem? :S Any ideas? Thanks in advance! :D

    XPee Professional SP2
    AMD XP 2600+

Did you re-install your graphics card drivers?

    moved to correct forum.
iamsam43, edit that link out of your sig as against forum rules ASAP.
check game sites for patches, updates & faqs. check to see what version of direct x you are running by typing in the run command line dxdiag.

nvidia.com and yes they are the newest ones. I really think the problem is related to audio drivers (or something audio related) because of the errors both Sniper Elite and F.E.A.R. report before crashing. See my first post for those error messages.

The audio chip is onboard, and my motherboard is by EPoX. The drivers are by nvidia. I have used these same drivers and hardware before for games and it worked fine, so I'm really confused as to what the problem is.
