HEY, I'M NEW TO MODDING PS2S, I JUST RECENTLY REPAIRED MINE 2 TIMES IN THIS PAST YEAR. FIRST I HAD THE DREADED DISC READ ERROR, THAT I CORRECTED AND HAVENT HAD A PROBLEM WITH THAT ANY MORE, THEN MY PS2S POWER RIBBON WAS NROKEN, I RECEIVED A REPLACEMENT IN THE MAIL TODAY AND INSTALLED AND NOW MY PS2 WORKS. ANYWAY ON TO MY QUESTION(S) WITH A HARD DRIVE LIKE MAXTOR OR SEAGATE WOULD IT BE POSSIBLE TO PLAY GAMES DIRECTLY FROM THE HARD DRIVE WITHOUT HAVING THE DISC INSIDE THE PS2. ALSO I KNOW I WOULD NEED A HARD DRIVE AND A NETWORK ADAPTOR, DOES ANYONE KNOW ANY OTHER EQUIPMENT I WOULD NEED AND COULD I GET STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO SET EVERYTHING UP?

    1. yes, with the old fat PS2 you can add a hard drive very easily (maxtor or segate). all you need is 10 minutes and the network adapter. And once you load the games on the hard drive you play them from there. Only disc you need is HD Loader. Or the other option is using a program called a memory card exploit that you run from a memory card to run the hard drive. See a site called Exploitstation.com for more information.

    2. HD Loader or a memory card exploit and the network adapter is all you will need to use the hard drive (i think). as long as HD Loader also has the feature to copy the game from the disc to the hard drive. I have never used it because my DMS4 Pro chip has all that software built right in.

there is a compatibility chart, and at the top is a small link that says install tips to show you how to install it.
I would say about 95% of the games i have tried will work on the hard drive, there of course will be a few that will not.
