New weapon for the Console Forum Rooms

Say Hello to the Goodbye Weapon

The crowd is getting ugly. Mods roll up in a Hummer. Suddenly, the whole right half of your body is screaming in agony. You feel like you've been dipped in molten lava. You almost faint from shock and pain, but instead you stumble backwards -- and then start running. To your surprise, everyone else is running too. In a few seconds, the Console Forum Rooms is completely empty.

You've just been hit with a new nonlethal weapon that has been certified for use in Iraq -- even though critics argue there may be unforeseen effects.
The beam produces what experimenters call the "Goodbye effect," or "prompt and highly motivated escape behavior." In human tests, most subjects reached their pain threshold within 3 seconds, and none of the subjects could endure more than 5 seconds.

"It will repel you," one test subject said. "If hit by the beam, you will move out of it -- reflexively and quickly. You for sure will not be eager to experience it again."

But while subjects may feel like they have sustained serious burns, the documents claim effects are not long-lasting. At most, "some volunteers who tolerate the heat may experience prolonged redness or even small blisters," the Air Force experiments concluded.

    New weapon info here

My problem with this is you close some treads that was very helpful like this one.

    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/429719

I hope in the future that you would a least read some of the treads before closing them...Dont forget everyone in the console forums are not looking for a fight but looking for help or info like any other forum we have on here.

stuff like that shouldbe done in PM's, NOT the public forums, hence why it was closed.

how is posting your network ID helpful to other members? when it comes down to it, AD is not a social forum, thus that doesn't belong here.

What i reply to is that you find it funny because you close 3 pages of treads. But some people that put in time to give info dont find this funny so why you tell to PM this when your picking fun of something that some people in the console forum that dont find this funny. This tread is about the console forum so i think im on topic.I understand that are some treads that do need to be closed but some you closed was helpful.

    [bold]Auslander[/bold]
The tread was for people that have a PS3 to link up online so thats why we posted our tags.To find each other to link up.Its not up to you what helpful and what not.In that case let close the whole forum down then.

and why not do that on a social forum instead of a forum dedicated to problem solving?

I don't think creaky was picking on anything/anyone... He merely said to you that if members would like to disclose that info to each other, it should be done in a PM, not in public; that's reasonable, isn't it?

And Aus is right, this is a techy forum, not msn...

    [bold]PS3 - General discussion
This forum is meant for Playstation 3 -related discussion only. No topics related to the original Playstation or PS2 or any other consoles allowed here.[/bold]

So that mean anything we want to talk about longs as it related to the PS3 how much more clear this can be.

look at it this way: AD is the United States, and the PS3 forum is one of the states. states cannot pass a law that overrides federal laws, as the federal government has supreme power over the states authorities.

while ps3 related topics are allowed, the overall rule of AD is that this site is [bold]not[/bold] just to socialize. the only possible exceptions are in the forums of All Other Topics and Safety Valve, but even there, there's always more of a purpose than socializing.

    comprende?

Look i stated my case there is not rule on this site what so ever that say this so i dont know where you getting this mess from.In that case then closed down just about more than half of the posts on this site then. But your not the Mod nor Drd.So im done talking about this.Creaky im not trying to show you up but when you post something like that it makes people upset but next time i will handle it with a PM.

it's just common sense, man. you're a senior member, you know what AD is about. threads like that get closed down consistently not for lack of a reason of closing, but for lack of a worthwhile purpose in existing.

DamonDash - i only closed stuff that was redundant or duplicate. the old stuff is still there to refer to and people can of course start new threads, it was time for a cleanup is all.
No different to what we do in the dvd/other forums, multiposts are closed and similar popular subjects are pretty much kept in big threads, ie Intel vs AMD, Official PC Building thread etc etc. The PS3 forum just happened to be the one with the largest amount of duplicate threads.
There's more work needed in other forums too, i know i'm not alone in being fed up of seeing endless pages of 'how do i soft mod my xbox' and 'how do i ftp to my xbox'. Most of the forums i contribute in (notice i didn't say moderate) are fairly self-moderating as most of the posters know how to keep their own forums clean/inform us when things need closing/sorting. If a helluva lot more of that kind of stuff came from more regulars of the console rooms we wouldn't be debating this..

The trouble is it's got well out of hand. I left them alone because of it..and so have lots of others with the knowledge to sort things out.

Whining and arguing about pointless threads being closed doesn't help matters, only contributes to the ill feeling at AD which we are trying to get rid of. Personally I think the mods here are very lenient, I have small issues with one or two of them over the stamping down of an honest viewpoint, but nothing more serious than that. If a thread that contains good info gets closed I might query it by pm with the mod concerned..but they always have a damn good reason. As Aus said.. These are tech help forume..not a social club.. If you want to socialise pm your details to the person you want to chatter to or take it to ad_buddies (and beware if you have pi**** any seniors off recently!). there are lots of opportunities for f***wittery in the safety valve..yet even in there you will find certain rules.. ddp closed a perfectly harmless thread yesterday because he could see (as could I) where it was going to end.... We didn't complain, the fun had already been had from it and it was just going to get offside and nasty... We don't need any more of that, a laugh is one thing, but pointless chatter will be considered post padding anywhere it counts against post score.. In reality the mods are doing people a favour closing those threads because continual post padding is felt by some to be a bannable offence here... Enough from me..it's bedtime.

Look i bet we can go back & find meaning less treads from you and anyone else so dont sit here & act like every post you make is informal so just kill it.This is the problem with AD we got to many Senior members & Addict trying to play mods .Let the Mods do there job.Creaky & i have got this issue iron out already.

Good luck with that. I don't think janrocks makes a habbit of posting junk...

I don't think janrocks was trying to "play mod" either. Merely expressing her views on the whole console thing and situatuin @ aD.

Anyway, said my bit, so I'm out.

let me play mod here :)

loads of opinions here, but on balance not as many thread closures today. granted i haven't really started prowling the place for the day yet but those 3 pages needed closing so probably not much needs doing today. peace and goodwill in the ranks please :) :)

ps to be honest i'm always glad of jan's comments, she's approx my age (creaky ducks for cover and glosses over that fact quickly) and with age (ducks again) usually comes great wisdom so let us oldies (too creaky and old to duck a 3rd time) have our say
