    Add a HDD Blinking Light.

    You Will need.
    -6v 20ma LED
    -220 Ohm Resistor
    -Soldering Iron

    Process.

Simply Attach the Cathode end of the LED onto the 39th Wire on the IDE Connected. The RED/Dotted Line is the 1st Cable so work your way down. Please Note this cable must not be split you are simply attaching the LED to this end. On the Anode side of the LED attach the Resistor and then attach the resistor to +5 Volts.

Thats it. You have a Indicator Light for your hard drive.

Sorry for the quicky but hopefully this will help you. As for your method in using the Indicator lights on the front. Id be reluctant to. Too risky damaging something.

    Peace & greetz 2 all
