    1) Hi, I was planning on adding a HD to my Slim PS2 and was goggling some ways to do it when I came across a cord that can change an IDE to USB and also change the Power plug from the HD to a normal wall plugin.

My question is, will this work with a PS2? I have an old Seagate 20GB IDE HD laying around and figured it would be much cheaper to buy this wire kit ($20 USD + Tax and Shipping).

Has anyone tried this? And does it work?

    2) What programs would I need to use the HD connected to the PS2? Are there programs (free preferably) that could be loaded to the HD to allow for games to be loaded and played using the HD? Also, if theres anything like those Dashboard-like progs for PS2's (My bro has something called Slayers EvoX and Xbox media Center on his Xbox)

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

you can use a USB solution but it wont work well you. To get good results you need hd connect or hd combo

HD connect and HD Combo are programs to run the HD on a PS2???

So this cable should be compatible with running an internal IDE HD as an external USB HD?

HD connect and HD combo are not programs. HD combo is actually a new ps2 case that allows the hard drive to become internal...HD connect is similar except that the hard drive remains outside the case in its own enclosure.

Not too sure about this wire that you're talking about, but it wont be 1 simple wire connection. If you could PM me a link to the setup I could judge better.

I sent you a PM with offsite links to the hardware I use. Hope its helpful.

Turns out the items I was looking at was USB to IDE and not IDE to USB... I somehow mixed up the simple fact that HD's have the male end, not the female end of the connection so the cables I was looking at aren't a choice.

So a 3.5 Portable Hard Disk Drive Case will work well and should allow me to plug it into the PS2 and work right?

What software would I need to have to be able to play games and media on the HD? Also, these can be loaded via connecting the HD to the computer right? Also, if its allowed in this specific forum section, would this setup allow me to play backups (via drive or HD like an Xbox softmod)?

I use hdloader to boot games from the usb drive...and if you want to send games directly from pc, then I use winhiip, and it will see the usb drive when formatted to ps2.

Ahhh ... ok ... well in reality they are very different. USBA is very buggy and not compatible with enough of a percentage of games to be considered a viable option. However the current patched HDL is a very good solution.

Do these options require a modchip to work? I kinda figured there would be a simple cord/adapter that could turn IDE to USB and a program I could boot from memory card to do this. Since I seen many USB to IDE/SATA adapters before... so I guess theres no such thing and I would still have to mod my PS2 via soldering...

I was only going to do this if I could avoid internal modification like soldering, but if I have to anyway, I would rather spend the money on a crystal chip or DMS 4.

Thanks for the help so far guys, its been very informative.
