I own a HP pavillion 8755c and the hard drive has went south on it. I want to get a new HD but am not willing to pay the hundreds of dollars that HP wants for a new one.

Can I buy a cheaper HD and if so how do I know if it is compatible? I am interested in a Western Digital 80GB EIDE Hard Drive which is a far less expensive option. Will this HD work?

Also it being an OEM version it won't have any accessories. What will I need? I saw that I may need a drive power cable. What is this and where should I get it?

If you are replacing a hard drive just use the same cables so long as the old one was also IDE, which it probably was.

You'll need your O/S install disc make sure you have a full version of whatever operating system you are installing not sure what HP would have given you.

It is IDE and I have the OS installation disk.

But the brand of HD is irrelevant? I can use the cheaper Western Digital I mentioned before?

    Thanks again!
