Hard Drive not seen using sata card

    I am using a sil 3512 sata card to hook up a western digital 250gb hd to my pc. The drive shows up in device manager but not in my computer, it says device is working properly, but it doesn't have a drive letter. The raid option is disabled also since I am only using one drive. Thanks in advance for advice.

    did you partition & format the drive?

    I had the same prob until I installed a 4Gb HD as a master drive onto the main IDE. Then everything started to work. But I Still can't make it the BOOT drive. I have a ABIT 939 Motherboard with Audio 9600 Radeon AVG VGA Graphics Card.
    So I suggest you buy a small IDE HDD and install it as your boot drive and it should work.

    The Sata HD is a Western Dig 250GB.

    maddjeff, just have to change the boot drive in the bios to sata from ide hd(pata).

    control panel, administrative tools, open computer management, click disk management,find the hard drive and format and partition it

    Thanks for all of you guys help. The problem was that I didn't create partition. I didn't know this was neccessary since I never had to do it with other ide drives.

    all drives whether ide or sata have to be partitioned than formated before being used.
