Harddrive crashed 07 need new

i am wonderin if i can just go out and by me a new harddrive and use it on my xbox without buying a mod chip

 

not unless you have your eeprom from your xbox...if you do then yes a ide 3.5 inch HD will work fine you will have to use xboxHDM to format it ...if you dont have your eeprom then you will need a modchip..
