I just installed a chipmod Pro mod chip into a new version15 PS2, and I've been trying to backup about 7 games, and so far I've made over 20 coasters, without one single game working. It always gets just past the Playstation2 logo and than the disk just keeps spinning and spinning. I know the chip works, cause I never get a red screen or disk read error, and all of my backups that I have made about a year ago work and load perfectly fine. I have tried verbatim, and nexxtech DVD-R. I checked with DVD Identifier, and it turns out that both are made by Mitsubishi Chemical Corp, and both of them have the same manufacturer ID ( MCC 03RG20) and according to this website, they are supposed to be first class media. IS it possible that my PS2 can't read certain types of media?, considering all the games that do work that I have made a long time ago where on different media. I've tried every guide I found on here for copying the games, and nothing works, even tryied rebuilding the games. Oh yeah, and the disks I couldn't get to work on this PS2 work fine on my friends PS2 and he has a version7 with a chip mod H20 mod chip in it.

I don't suppose the old media you used to back up your old games were on DVD-Rs while the new media you've been using which are these Verbatim 16x DVD-Rs are the ones that haven't been working? With the v15, it is known, including mine, that the silver slim v15 PS2s have trouble reading DVD-Rs even when booktyped. You're better off using DVD+Rs for the recent slim versions which I'm guessing you have.

The old media was all 16X DVD-Rs, and so is the new ones, the only difference between them is that the old ones, turn out to be 4th class media, while the new ones are supposed to be first class media. And yes I do have the new silver slim PS2, and I will try using some DVD+Rs, I will go out and get some today. Thanks for the advice.

No problem. This is a somewhat common problem with the latest slimline. It is known for some v15 PS2s, they simply can't read DVD-Rs yet some can like some have said. I happen to be one of those that cannout use DVD-Rs at all on my v15 PS2 and hence, switched and currently using DVD+Rs to play my backed-up games on my silver slim PS2. I hope the media type switch will solve everything for you.

well, I went out and bought some verbatim and sony dvd+r's and still no luck, then went out and bought a brand new 20Xlite-on dvd burner, and still no luck. I'm starting to wonder if the mod chip installation has something to do with it, that something isn't working properly in that.

You might want to check and see if you need to do a special boot-up or activate a certain mode before you can play your backed-up games. Check or ask the place you bought your chip from for more info. As for the chipMod Pro you installed, it may not be a bad installation but a lack of compatability of playing such and such game. Check Tokijin's FAQ under PS2 Hardware Discussion to find out more about your modchip and all else. You might even want to consider getting a DMS4 or Matrix Infinity instead. Modchip FAQ

I think I may know what the problem is, not 100% sure though if its possible. I defregmanted my hard drive after saving games on it with DVD decrypter. Not sure if it moved files around within the games or but could that be possible? I got a new game today and made a backup copy of it and it plays fine, its on a verbatime 16X DVD-R, the same ones I used before that didn't work.

If you made an iml file from CD/DVD Gen and made your ISO with Gnie or something from that iml, then the files wouldn't be moved and the program you are using to build the ISO should create the ISO's lba within the order you listed in the iml. Defragmenting shouldn't do anything of that sort because I also do so too whenever I finally extract the contents from a game disc and before burning; however, it does move files around sometimes for some reason. As to what defragmenting does, I have no clue but I do know it does move files from time to time if you read the progress bar, it'll tell you what's it doing specifically sometimes. It's nice that you got your DVD-Rs to work. I guess I'm one of the very few unfortunate people who has to pay extra for DVD+Rs (not that I mind but...) instead of saving a fortune on getting DVD-Rs with the same quality.

how do you make your backups? I usually just use dvd decrypter to extract the iso and then use the same program or imgburn to burn the iso. I used to do them differently, but I can't remember the excact way i used to do it, all I know it used to be like 3-4 steps involved. I went out yesterday and bought some PS1 games to see if they load, and none of the 3 work, even with the mod chip disabled, it either reads them as an audio cd, or it just keeps taking me back to the browser.

Just to let you know, playing PSX games on the slim PS2 is really horrendous imho. I was really disappointed in finding so many small issues or little glitches not caused by the game itself but the system (slim PS2) that was reading these games. Some people have called me out being paranoid about this, but I also happen to concentrate a lot when playing my games, and, hence, these little hitches are quite obvious to me when playing.

For burning, I usually do what is recommend. Don't use any of those DVD RWs, stick to 8x or below, burn at half the speed if using the ISO or full speed supported from the disc if you're using an MDS file, but I burn at half the speed just in case, DVD Decryptor with a LITE-ON burner with the JSOD firmware update, clear up unnecessary programs running to optimize the computer's resources into burning my game as priority, clear up my computer for spyware, mal-ware, ad-ware and etc.. and start burning when I clean everything with my connection off just incase Windows does an automatic update or someone uses my network connection.

As to what programs I use to make the ISO, I use Gnie iml2iso, Sony CD/DVD Gen or Apache 3 when making my games. I switch depending how low I can shrink the byte size of the game (yes, I'm that picky I suppose).

No wonder it wouldn't play the PSOne games I just bought. I had bought them a discount store and they were all 3 in a package on a discount rack for $4.99 total pirce. Turns out that two of the games aren't even playstation games, cause they have the PC CD Rom game symbol on them, and the one that was a psone game, was all dirty. I cleaned it and it works fine, so I guess my installation of my mod chip is fine(and I was just about to take it all apart again).
