I ordered hd advance the other day and it just arrived, is it necessary to have a hard drive or can it work with out one?

It sounds like you ordered something you know nothing about, which in my mind is pretty stupid, but the answer to your question is very simple, yes, you need a hard drive. The HDLoader is just a software that allows you to put games on your hard drive, that you don't have, and play them without a disc.

I would advise you to get a maxtor drive, they are the recommended drive to use. I have been using it over a year now and it is really good. There are some good sights out there, I wanted to get it from http://www.robotpig.com but they are based in Taiwan so I went with a UK based company http://www.solidentertainmentuk.com, got it next day.

You really should look into before buying the hd advance/loader. The hard drives are great, I prefer it more than the swap magic.
